I woke up late that day and missed Marion and Eddy so I went outside on my own for this second day in Bangkok.
First, BREAKFAST! I walked to Khao San Road, really “well” reputed for its night life full of drunk and irresponsible backpackers and its day market. I asked for a mango juice to this lady on a little stall and I delightfully took a sip of it before realizing there was crushed ice in it… You can imagine my face transforming from a stupid smile to a grimace of horror. Well that was it… It was too late…
I’ve actually been lucky this time but you have to think about EVERYTHING who passes the frontiers of your lips. Not too spicy, no ice, and no… No insects for me, thanks!

I had to buy long skirts and light trousers to cover my legs during this trip. Except in some areas around the beach, I don’t feel really comfortable to show a lot of skin as I’m on my own. I promised before leaving that I will not wear any of these elephant pants that everybody has here but unfortunately I broke it. I’m sorry, it is really not fashion and the fact that everybody is wearing the same thing here drives me crazy but man, it is SO COMFY.
I finished the market via the food area and it was amazing to see all these fruits or vegetables that I’ve never seen in my life. Better not being hungover while you cross these streets, the smell is pretty strong. There is spices and fruits but also meet and fish, fried or raw, and because of the humid and hot weather, it is not the best thing ever to experience after a night out…
I walked to the Grand Palace but even with a sarong around my neck, the access was not permited to me and my-no-sleeve-really-respectful-high-collar-tee-shirt. Or maybe it was the Fashion Police and them too disagree with the elephant pants I realized that half of the place was close already. It was three. And it was expensive. And I had to rent these kind of purple silky pajama to visit everything. I thought that I will see a lot of temple during my stay in Asia so I decided to visit the Nationnal Museum instead.
The museum was pretty cool but quickly visited. The section about the fabrics was amazing and the temples were small but impressive.
At night, we took a cab to the Night Market in The south. Ah no… Sorry, we FOUGHT to find a cab to go to the night market. No one would stop or wanted to put the meter on. After dealing with a gentleman who looked grumpy as hell, we entered inside but stopped him half way as he was basically turning around to make the final price bigger. But he didn’t know that we had… The gps! Thanks to our iphones, we were following our way. Stuff like that happens all the time here. If you can show the exact way, the taxi driver won’t mess up with you. If not, you are just another walking dollar. KASHING!
A lot of little stories later, few dark alleys passed and some cheering a for a karaoke birthday party behind a truck, we arrived in the night market… To realize that the bars around were full of strip clubs, ping pong shows and prostitutes. That’s a big commerce here and I don’t judge people who wants to see these kind of things but I didn’t want to participate on that kind of exploitation.
We went outside pretty quickly and before fainting, we sat on the really famous plastic chairs in the street to eat a little something from a food stall.
We finally ended the night in the cutest bar in Bangkok, near the canal. if you around the Rolling Bar, check it out. Live music, nice view and amazing waiter.
