The train – Journey to Lop Buri

The real adventure begin!

Nobody is waiting for me in Lop Buri and that’s really exciting. No stress, no anxiety, I can arrive there anytime, I’m my own master. Well sort of!

I’ve heard that the train from Bangkok to North Thailand is a journey that you don’t want to miss. Well here I am. Ready to go!

I sat in the hall after paying 28 Baht for a three hour train. You know when the train leave, you do not know when you’ll arrive. But hey, I have all my time! In all the train stations, there is a section for the Monks. They are more respected than the Police and as a woman, I can’t seat next to them. I still don’t know what’s the attitude to have when I walk next to one of them in the street and feel pretty uncomfortable to even look at them as I really would like to be polite and respectfull.

The third class of the train was such an amazing thing. A really different kind of person use it to travel:  people wearing suits, people dress up comfy, travelers, and even one or two guys who looked that they are attached to the Mafia… Hum!

Along the way, the window wide open, the landscape is scrolling slowly in front of my sleepy eyes. My bag in front of me is like my most faithful friend and if it could speak I’m sure it would say how happy it is to be on the road again. Ok, I’m not that mad that I feel connected to a bag but I’m sure people who travelled with a backpack for a long time would understand!

At every station, old ladies come to all the carriage to sell food or some weird coloured fluids in plastic bags that you can drink with a straw.

Buffaloes, rice fields, temples, gigantic golden Buddha and crazy motorcycle riders. I feel connected to the present and enjoy the breeze shaking my hair. At some point, I had this kind of strange feeling in my belly. Like butterflies… I think that came because I felt a lot of pride about myself at that moment and that I started to have a little crush on this country. Yep, in that train, that day, I started to fall in love with my trip and maybe a bit with myself again.

Ten minutes before arriving to Lop Buri the ticket inspector shaked my shoulder and mumbled a “Lop Buri” at my attention. It’s not the first time that I notice that Thai people are taking care of their tourists.

The train stops, it is 2.45. I’m hungry!
