Canyon And Waterfall / Interviews

In the morning, two French guys were having a coffee in the outdoor area of the Lazy hostel. I don’t like talking in the morning. I don’t like to talk to French people just because I’m French. That could have started badly but we actually begin to laugh together and they nicely proposed me to carry me and my backpacks to my hostel in the center. I’ve been waking up in a pretty bad mood but it was the beginning of a brilliant day!

After breakfast we took the scooter to the waterfall “where you can jump”. I’m a pussy. I didn’t jumped. But Tim and Thibault climbed the rocks like little monkeys and impressed all the German and Chinese girls around with some salto

We continued the road trip to the canyon. It’s a really strange but incredibly beautiful place. Nature will always surprised me I think. A dark orange dusty path emerged from an ocean of jungle. You can walk on it and do a little walk of 20 minutes if you are not afraid of the height. Thai people are funny sometimes, the sentence “safety first” appears everywhere in the cities, in the train or even in the toilets but in these kind of places, they just trust your good sense and hope that you will not fall and die there. No fences or stairs or even ropes to help you in the difficulty of climbing this small path. In a way, I’ve never felt so free than here, you can basically do whatever you want in terms of riding a scooter with no helmet, staying on the stairs of an open door train or even fighting with a tribe of monkeys in the street. At the opposite there is a lot of basic rules that you need to follow if you don’t want to end in a Thai jail.

I met two girls that afternoon. One was fear frozen on a spot of the canyon and couldn’t continue the walk, the other one was supporting her from away. We start to speak together and it appears that they were actually some wanderlust queens on the way. As the sun went down and the panorama was pretty exceptional, I asked them to be part of the project and two seconds later, they start to answer my regular questions.

I had the chance to capture a bit of the emotion and stories of a Thai girl traveling on her own in her country and a South American girl who admitted that it has been really hard for her to make her family accept her wanderlust as it is still pretty rare to see a girl traveling by herself in South America.

Your words were precious girls, thanks again!

At night, and because I wanted to chill under the stars again in a nice place, the boys and I went again at the White Buddha place. We spent two hours trying the recognize which constellation were above our heads helped with the app “Carte du ciel”. I can say now that I know how Andromaque looks like. See the long line of stars there? Ah maybe not here, probably more on the right. Wait, turn your phone? Ok now I’m lost. I’m maybe not ready to a career at the NASA yet…

We joined some cool kids at the night market that the boys met the last night. I don’t understand how but the party went a bit mad. We finished the night (or started the day…) at the Sunset bar, where people were playing pool, felt out off the fence, where an English girl spent the entire night her skirt above her ass and where people were so high or drunk that no sentence were making any sense.
Pai has a dark side too…
