Soooo… Mount Popa isn’t really what I’d expected.

From afar, the site is pretty incredible. On the top of a mountain stands the Holly site. It is considered as the spiritual HQ to Myanmar said the Lonely Planet and the full moon event who were supposed to happen that night attracted a lot of tourists from everywhere (specially from Myanmar. essentially Burmese actually…). It is said that pre-Buddhist spirits, the nat, live there.

I love ghosts stories but I haven’t seen one there. Not even shivered from a spirit wandering around. It is maybe unfair of me to say that this place was soulless but… That’s what I felt.

Shinny boutiques, Bollywood styles buddha rooms, angry monkeys, 777 steps and thousands of people who doesn’t give a fuck about ecology and throw all kind of rubbish just everywhere, that, you can admire.

Maybe I’ve been a spoiled child and the fact I have visited the Golden rock which is kind of the same place made me think that Mount Popa is not particulary attractive if you are not from Myanmar.
Anyway, I’m glad I’ve been there nit to think sfterall that I missed something in my trip. In the end, I will remember the way to go there like a good memory!
