En route! Koh Phi Phi

After a massive chill out in Koh Lanta, Alexia and I were ready for a bit more of actions in our travel. Changing plans were not a problem. All we had to do is to find a nice place to stay few days.
My travel buddy had in view Koh Phi Phi for snorkeling. I had Koh Phi Phi in view for the reputed jungle walk and maybe a little bit for the night life also…

I was actually not ready for what I found on this little piece of paradise.
Paradise yes, but not for everybody…

As soon as I dropped a foot on the island, I knew I would hate this part of Thailand.

Not that the landscapes were not breath taken, it was more the crazy party vibe that you could feel at every corner of the streets that scared me.

As walking in the little Soi, I appreciated the small size of the “town”, the fact that no bikes, no cars or even no bicycles were accepted here was truly a good thing. I was actually delighted to see PIZZAS and HAMBERGER (most common mistake here!) or even DRAUGHT BEER, on the menus everywhere. My stomach was craving for some western food.

Another part of me was horrified to see all the bars around, the alcohol games signs inviting the tourists to be part of the massive livers destruction operating every night and the cold smell of alcohol, vomit and tobacco on the floor.

It was still early and the streets looked like a Sunday in Shoreditch, in London, when the streets themselves are hungover and try to hide the shame of what happened during a crazy Saturday night.

I decided to give a chance to Koh Phi Phi, because afterall, we were here not just to party but to discover the underwater world.

Who says diving and beach time says bikini.

Who says bikinis and female backpackers in the same sentence insinuate waxing time. I had the first real wax of my trip in Koh Phi Phi and God knows how scared I was. I’ve heard so many horror stories from girls traveling and trying this kind of services in South East Asia that I was about to faint when I arrived in the room.

It is still a taboo subject. I have rarely talked about that with any other woman travelers, except after few beers in the darkest part of a bar, whispering the shameful words and telling some painful stories of blood and hair removed from the sacred feminine body part.

Sisters, pay attention here, I was expecting an abomination and I was ready for the supreme torture of all time. The colorless face of Alexia coming out of the room didn’t help me gaining any courage before doing it but in fact it was alright. I mean… I survived.

Still, be careful if you decide to do it, I’ve heard that some friends of friends are not the same anymore after trying in South East Asia…

Ah… Being a woman…
