Singapore airport

I’m not proud about it, but I nearly miss my correspondent flight in Singapore Airport because I was too busy exploring the different corners of this amazing place.

When I was not travelling, I loved taking bath sometimes, going to Broadway Market near the canal on a Saturday afternoon and enjoy a duck confit burger and a fresh cut coconut, or having a coffee and a croissant from Barrel before going to work. I loved founding treasure for free in the street and listening to some music while reading on my bed, drinking a good bottle of red wine with my friends and petting my cat (ok, not my cat,my flatmate Troy…’s cat) and watching a good movie.

And then I start to live the backpacker life and my little pleasures changed from “normal one” into “hmmm it’s kind of strange that you like doing that Margot”.

What I like doing now is sleeping a cheap and really clean bedroom with AC and oh yes… A hot shower. Having a fresh beer at sunset in front of the sea or on a rooftop, eat a new delicious dish on a plastic chair at a night market, having my nails done and enjoying it for three minutes (keeping a perfect manicure for a backpacker: impossible missioon), being the only western tourist in a place for a bit and feel special about it, meeting hard core traveller and listening to their stories and… Exploring airports.

Three years ago exactly, I started a trip to New Zealand, Australia and Vietnam with my friend Faustine. Our first stop was Singapore. We spent few hours there and instead of exploring the city for free, we just lied down on a sofa and slept like babies.

Since then, I’ve been obsessed with this airport. I think it’s the best in the world and I could spend days there, with the butterflies, trying creams for my dehydrated face, watching movies in the cinema, eating at Burger King and skipping happily between the cactus. I’ve heard that there is a swimming pool on a rooftop… But I still don’t know if it’s an urban legend or the reality.

Anyway… Singapore Airport, you and your little train, your little secret wild areas, your shops and your art, I LOVE YOU.
