After the three days hike in Myanmar, wearing my destroyed converses and sleep on the floor, freezing to the bones, I thought that the hardest part of my trip was done.
I was not imagining one second that a way more intense experience was waiting for me in Java and that I would admire a sunset in Hell…
I met Alberto, a Spanish traveler in Jogja. I was searching for an express tour to see what East Java had to show in terms of Volanoes. I could have do it on my own, like a badass but after reading a lot of advices on Google from people who did it in the past, I realise that this time, an agency would be more than welcome. It really looked like a big hassle and it seems to costs more to do it on your own than with a tour.

Yogyakarta is different than any other city I visited in Java. The colors on the walls, the nice smell coming from every warung (these kind of small restaurants opened on the street where you can serve yourself succulent Nasi Goreng for few bills), the noise of the busy traffic, the smily people, the chicken on the road…

This bar has nothing to do with reggae except the colors on the wall and the bob Marley picture illustrating the menu. But you have a live band playing sometimes and it’s just a great place to meet people. Like these expats from France and Maurice or these two football coaches from Nigeria…

There is this idealistic and glamorous image of the hippie on the road: free, wild, fresh.
You probably have seen these cute trendy pictures of these amazing young and beautiful girls, long hair, perfect boho outfit, enjoying the sun in an amazing place, with this quote about how easy and brilliant travelling is on the top. I know you did because they are everywhere on pinterest, facebook, instagram, tweeter and I don’t know where the hell else on the internets. I have to admit that they made me dream and I’ve been thinking about myself in the picture instead of the lady, on each of them… When you plan a trip, you want to look as cool, as rad and fit as the girl on the picture, innit?
