Driving back home that day, I encountered a procession of villagers all wearing their celebratory outfits, holding baskets on their head and carrying leaves. They had rice on their throat and on their third eye. I stopped on the side of the road amazed and observed from afar.

The longest day

Not that I bought an extra bag of souvenirs or that I am filling up my stomach every night while emptying my wallet but comparing to the other countries I travelled so far in South East Asia, Indonesia is not the cheapest in terms of accommodations and traveling from a city to another.

Au fond de la piscine
I was a bit sad to leave Thailand. In the end, I spent a lot of time in this country and I started to understand the culture and thai people. Well… At least few of them!
Traveling from a point to another was easy in this part of the world and I started to get the references and know how to react to all kind of situations.
But I had to move on cause my heart was still starving for adventures and the road kept calling my name. Paolo Cohelo, my guide, said: “If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine; it is lethal”. It could seems pretentious or completely out of note but when you are stuck on an island for about a week, things start to feel a bit repetitive and you can “suffer” from routine. Your feet usually start getting itchy and your back missing a weight that only your faithful backpack could fill.

Monks
A stop in a Monastery. Not the most famous one but the more authentic and the cheaper (free is cheap no?).
You have to know that in Myanmar you have to be a monk twice in your life. Once before you reach 20 years old as an apprentice, and another time after that to be ordered as a Monk.
Some men decide to be monks after being married so you’ll see often daddy taking care of their sons or daughters while wearing the orange or purple costume.
