Driving back home that day, I encountered a procession of villagers all wearing their celebratory outfits, holding baskets on their head and carrying leaves. They had rice on their throat and on their third eye. I stopped on the side of the road amazed and observed from afar.

Tegalalang Region
I wake up early and drive my scooter for what it seems like an eternity. The sun was slowly rising when I turn left at the round about with the giant God Statue, the gigantic and beautiful Archer Patung Arjuna. By the little amount of honking in the street, it was clear that the only people awoke were going to work.

I sat down at the first row. I was not the kind of student who used to sit right next to the teacher in class but after all, it’s not everyday that I’ll be able to see a traditional Balinese show. And after the few first notes of the Gamelan resonated in the big room, I knew it was probably be the last time!

Impossible to be in Ubud and not think about Elizabeth Gilbert, the writer of the best seller and autobiographic novel “Eat, Pray, Love”. Continue reading
Us against him
We always think of Bali like the island of Gods, a little heaven on earth where people are smiling no matter what.

The longest day
A look at my bank account is telling me that it’s time to reduce the expenses. Not that I bought an extra bag of souvenirs or that I am filling up my stomach every night while emptying my wallet but comparing to the other countries I travelled so far in South East Asia, Indonesia is not the cheapest in terms of accommodations and traveling from a city to another.

Sylvain
I met Sylvain about three years ago, in an hostel in Iceland. A huge snowstorm forced my travel buddy and I to stop for the night in an hostel when I heard a french couple behind me at the reception. Let me tell you that as a french person, you can be really judgemental over other french persons when you are travelling. So I didn’t say anything at first and just listened. Just to be sure. You know…

Gili Air
Yep. It’s raining again.
I arrive on Gili Air in the afternoon. I planned to meet my friend Sylvain in the evening so I start to explore the area while it’s still day light. It’s a small and intimate island so it doesn’t take me long to walk around. I love this feeling of proximity. We are only four of five tourists arriving in Gili Air today so it’s a piece of cake to find a cool and cheap shack to stay for two nights. (Bambu homestay)

Sisters
As you may know, I spent two years in London. You might think that for a frenchy, living on Queen Elizabeth’s island would have depressed my sensitives taste buds. And you would be wrong, oh so wrong my dear reader! London offered me the chance to discover cuisine from everywhere in the world.

Rastafari
Back home, there is few things that really annoy me. People pushing me in a crowded place and not apologizing. Being late and people who are late. Even if I must admit being late at all my meetings. It’s in my genes, I can’t fight it, it’s my Latin blood! I hate cold espresso, bicycling under the rain and also tomato sauce stain on a white blouse. Let’s not talk about guys in the street asking if I want to grab a drink with them. No. I don’t want to know you. I’m busy and you are scary. Leave. Me. Alone. Please.
